It was nearly six o’clock by the time Ris had finished up at the museum, but Guin hadn’t minded. She spent the time catching up on current events—and sent messages to Craig and the detective, asking if they had any news. She had been tempted to text Art too, to see if he was okay, but she restrained herself.

“So where do you want to go for dinner?” asked Ris.

“How about we go to that new pizza place, Dante’s, over at the Sanibel Inn?” asked Guin. “That is, if your diet regimen allows for pizza.”

Ris, a runner who was also into yoga, was a bit of a health nut and lived by the Mediterranean Diet, though he had a sweet tooth and enjoyed beer.

“I think I can squeeze in a little pizza,” he said, patting his stomach (which did not show an ounce of flab—unlike mine, thought Guin).

Guin smiled. “Then it’s settled. Let’s go.”

“They do serve salads there, though, yes?” asked Ris.

Guin rolled her eyes.

“I’m sure they do. Do you want me to double check? I can call them if you’re concerned.”

“No, that’s okay,” he said.

They left the museum and stopped at the foot of the stairs.

“Why don’t I drive?” suggested Ris.

Guin was about to suggest they take two cars, but she had had enough battles for one evening, so she quickly agreed. A couple of minutes later, they were heading to Dante’s in Ris’s vintage red Alfa Romeo convertible.

“I do love this car,” said Guin, enjoying the breeze.

Ris glanced over at her and smiled. “She’s a beauty.”

A few minutes later they arrived at Dante’s. Ris parked the car and they headed in.

“A table for two, please,” he asked the hostess, giving her a big smile, the one that revealed his dimples.

The woman beamed. Ris had that effect on women.

“Would you like a booth?” she asked.

“Please,” he said, still smiling at her.

“Follow me,” she said.

Guin gave Ris a look, to which he shrugged.

“Here you go!” said the hostess, placing two menus on the table. “Your server will be right over.”

She stood there an extra second, smiling at Ris, who continued to smile at her. Guin cleared her throat and looked from Ris to the hostess. The hostess blushed slightly, then left.

“Must you do that?” asked Guin.

“Do what?” asked Ris.

“Be so charming—flirt with every woman you meet.”

“I do not flirt with every woman I meet,” said Ris.

“Uh-huh,” said Guin. She knew first-hand his effect on women, and thought he secretly enjoyed it, despite what he said.

Fortunately, before they could continue that discussion (or argument), the server came over. “Good evening,” he said. “My name’s Mike. I’ll be your server tonight. Can I get the two of you some drinks while you’re deciding?”

They ordered two glasses of High Five IPA.

“Very good,” said Mike. “I’ll be right back.”

Guin picked up the menu. “As you can see, they have salads.”

“And coal-fired wings,” said Ris.

“Those do look good,” said Guin. “How about we share some wings and a pizza?”

“Sounds good to me,” said Ris. “And a salad.
